ArdchoilleArdchoille is a distinguished Grade B listed, Victorian mansion built in the early 1900s and built by the renowned Scottish architect William Leiper. The house was commissioned by George McGregor for his wife Miss Thom of Barremman. The property is featured in the book ‘North Clyde Estuary - An Illustrated Architectural Guide’ by Frank Walker and Fiona Sinclair, “Leiper spurned the simplicity of local vernacular, reviving the red rosemary tiled roof, half timbered and tile hung window-bays, and stone clad staircase tower of upper Helensburgh villas”. A great deal of care and attention to detail has been taken when restoring both the internal and external period features. The roof has been completely re-tiled and numerous internal improvements make it a truly characterful home. The main accommodation of Ardchoille is sensibly laid out and has been meticulously designed around the loch views, with large bay windows in both the lounge and drawing room emphasising the property’s views across the Gare Loch. In addition to the fine cornicing and large open fires, the wooden flooring and wooden wall panelling add to the distinction of this impressive family home. |
